New Certificate in Pre-Incident Planning for the Fire Service

Pre-incident planning is the key to effective and efficient response to fire protection system activations in sprinklered buildings. The FM Global Fire Service Learning Network now offers a Pre-Incident Planning for the Fire Service Certificate for firefighters, fire officers, and executive officers to expand their pre-incident planning skillset with a stronger understanding of how to:

  • Formulate a pre-plan for a sprinkler-protected property
  • Incorporate fire protection system information into new and existing pre-incident plans
  • Understand the need to develop comprehensive pre-incident plans for complex properties
  • Analyze and improve their current pre-planning process using lessons learned from past incidents
  • Prepare for emerging warehouse technologies that use automated robots

This awareness-level training helps prepare fire service personnel to apply pre-incident planning best practices to their local organization’s program. Facilities management personnel are also encouraged to complete the training so they can see their facility from the fire service’s perspective and work in partnership with the fire service to plan for emergency responses to their facilities.

The four programs in the Pre-Incident Planning for the Fire Service Certificate are:

Once the user completes all four programs, a multi-program certificate is available for download. The Pre-Incident Planning for the Fire Service Certificate is also added to the user’s transcript.

Check with your organization to see if completing the Pre-Incident Planning for the Fire Service Certificate fulfills continuing education or organizational training requirements. Organizations who want to require the training for all their personnel are encouraged to sign up for the free Group Registration program. Complete a brief form and upload a simple spreadsheet.
